If you ever doubt that Mother Nature has a sense of humor, just plant a garden.
Home gardening is an art, not a science. Anyone who tells you differently is lying or trying to sell you something. There are some hard-and-fast rules that you need to be aware of but it’s important to remember that heartbreak and unexpected success is all a part of the game when you start tilling the earth.
Here I hope to discuss some of the basics, share some practical advice and online resources, help to solve a problem or two, commiserate with your losses, and tout success. I do not have all the answers though, nor am I liable for any outcome you may experience. Unless, of course, you have a bumper crop of veggies or flowers that you’re looking to share…
My comments and responses will usually trend towards the organic side but even I will concede that sometimes chemicals are just plain necessary. As I live in Zone 5, most advice will be geared for New England’s climate and given season, but I’m happy to translate recommendations for other areas as well.
To minimize the “Spam Effect” to comment requires a login and all comments are moderated at my discretion. Feel free to share what you see and read here, just remember to give credit where it’s due. Stated plainly, copyrights apply here, so be kind and cite sources accordingly, or I will bust out the ruler and get Schoolmarm on you.
Please be as descriptive as possible when asking for help with something. The answer is inevitably hidden in the one detail you forgot to share. I earnestly believe that the only stupid question is the one not asked…that is unless you’re going to ask me to describe the color of mulch to you over the phone. Then you’re out of luck.
So, send me topics or questions you’d like to discuss, a story you’re dying to share or just stop by to see the latest and greatest. In the mean time, get off the computer and go get dirty…
